A defective engine only on the Arktika icebreaker?08.04.2020
As it became known in March on the Arktika icebreaker under construction, the right electric motor failed during sea trials and is not subject to restoration. Apparently, LLC «RUSELPROM» put a defectivethe engine. The exact failure cause can be found only after disassembling the engine.
But the problem is that the same engines have already been delivered to the same series icebreakers-Ural and Siberia. Are there any such defects in the engines that are already installed on these icebreakers? The engine in the Arktika will be changed next year, although it is planned to hand over the icebreaker, even without one working engine, in May this year. By the time, as the idle engine is removed from the Arctic and disassembled, the other two icebreakers should already be ready for transfer to operation.
Perhaps the builders should hurry up with replacing the engine in the Arktika, so that they do not cut the hull in the Urals and Siberia, when they are in a high state of readiness?
