Experts discussed the world’s largest Russian icebreaker fleet21.09.2021
Yesterday there was a news about the experts report on the Russian icebreaker fleet state. The Northeast Passage development was discussed at the Arctic Development Project Office site. There are currently 3,000 ice navigation vessels in Russia. At the same time, 500 vessels of at least Arc4 ice class and 40 of them are icebreakers. Norilsk Nickel and Gazpromneft, in particular, have their own ice class vessels. In addition to the new icebreakers, the Russian Arctic is waiting for a self-moving ice platform «North Pole». It is assumed that scientists will be able to work on it all year round in the Arctic. The platform should reach the Arctic in mid-2022. Now it is being completed at the Admiralty shipyards in St. Petersburg.
