The NorNikel infrastructure is worn out and is beginning to crumble15.07.2020
For the last 1.5 month it became known about the three incidents at the Norilsk Nickel enterprises, which have led to environmental problems and even disasters: in late May 2020 there was a tank with diesel fuel depressurization at TPP-3 under the Norilsk, spilling 21 tons of diesel fuel (fuel got into the rivers and lake Pyasino), the damage amount estimated at US20 billion; In June 2020, the reporters found draining contaminated water from the tailings pond to the tundra, a criminal case, the enterprise General Director is dismissed, the damage amount specified; On July 12, 2020, when pumping aviation fuel (TS-1) to the JSC «Norilsktransgas» fuel depot in the Tukhard village, the pipe was depressurized, and about 40.5 tons of aviation fuel spilled onto the ground. Fuel got into a nearby lake, the damage is being clarified.
One logical conclusion can be drawn from the accidents listed above: the plant, associated enterprises and infrastructure were built during the Soviet Union. All these years, neither the necessary repairs nor updates were carried out. There comes a time when metal gets tired. Then accidents begin to fall one after another. Yes, NorNickel’s stock price has fallen. But, if this continues, soon this company will be sold at the license for mining price.
