The Russian icebreaker fleet renewal has been postponed again. The icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin has not yet been delivered to the customer.25.06.2020
Icebreakers are not only nuclear, but also diesel. But most countries are trying to give up diesel-powered ships in order not to pollute the environment. And Russia’s new and most powerful non-nuclear icebreaker in the world, Viktor Chernomyrdin, has not been commissioned again. In November 2018, a fire occurred on the icebreaker and part of the equipment burned out. After that, the deadline for the icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin transfer to Rosmorport was postponed twice. It seems that when the icebreaker still comes to its’ workplace, it will be time to convert it to liquefied gas.
By the way, shouldn’t builders think about converting the icebreaker Viktor Chernomyrdin from diesel to gas now? After all, the Northeast Passage is criticized by many environmentalists for using diesel vessels on it. And the icebreaker «Viktor Chernomyrdin» is intended as a flagship. Apparently, it is planned to produce other icebreakers of the 22600 series, which include the icebreaker «Viktor Chernomyrdin».
