Yamal-LNG, which lost the ability to reload gas in Norway due to US sanctions, carried out the gas Board-to-Board reloading in Murmansk30.11.2020
Due to US financial sanctions imposed on Yamal LNG, ice-class tankers that brought liquefied natural gas from the Russian Arctic lost the ability to transfer gas «Board-to-Board» to conventional tankers in Norway. Such transshipment is necessary to reduce the transporting gas to consumers cost.
Russia does not yet have the specialists and equipment to handle such cargo. Therefore, since June 2019, the liquefied natural gas transshipment in the Murmansk port is the first and only one so far. The operation was performed with the Norwegian specialists help. The reloading was performed on a specially created temporary roadside reloading case of NOVATEK LNG.
Next year, it is planned to start training specialists who will be able to perform such transshipment. A shipyard is being built that will produce platforms-plants for the natural gas liquefaction and transshipment. So far, 3 such plants are planned to be built. But these are just plans. As we know, from plans to their implementation in Russia sometimes takes much longer than it was intended. In the meantime, the transshipment will be carried out by the Norwegians, but in Russia.
